| Kemptville 73s Transaction Log | | | | 73's Acquire Veterans | | July 9th, 2009 | Kemptville - The 73's continue to be very active in the off-season. Over the past few weeks the 73's have aggressively sought out players with CJHL experience who can step in and contribute to the leadership of the 73's going into their third season. In late spring, the 73's acquired 1990 defenceman, Jacob Clark, from the Smiths Falls Bears. The Almonte resident had an impressive season in Smiths Falls. He will bring an offensive force to the 73's blueline and should bring the fans out of their seats. On draft day, the 73's completed a trade with the Pembroke Lumber Kings to acquire speedy 1989 forward Zac Wilson. In addition to his offensive skills, maturity and leadership... three championship rings in the dressing room... enough said! And finally, last week the 73's completed the acquisition of 1989 RD Ryan Delorme from the Ottawa Junior Sens. Ryan has been on the scouts' radar for the past season. Ryan's leadership and physical presence should anchor the blueline. The 73's welcome these veteran players and their families to Hockeyville. The 73's are committed to bring to the community a team that will compete game in, game out towards the goal of making the play-offs. | | | | | 73's Trade Scott Farrell | | January 2nd, 2009 | Kemptville - With the upcoming trade deadline of Jan 10 approaching, the 73's took the initiative to continue to build for the future. Four-year veteran Scott Farrell had requested a trade to improve his chance of getting further exposure with play-off games. Recognizing that Scott would graduate at the end of the season and therefore only had 20 remaining regular season games with the 73's, the team actively pursued teams looking to acquire the league's top goal-scoring defensemen. The 73's maintained open communication with Scott and his family to keep everyone apprised of any possible interest. The league-leading Pembroke Lumber Kings recognize that Scott may well represent the final player in their pursuit of a third consecutive league championship. In exchange, the Kemptville 73's received Pembroke's first selection in the 2008 CJHL Entry Draft. Patrick Martin is a 16 year old speedy left winger currently playing with the Jr. B Ottawa West team. In addition, the 73's received the return of their 1st round pick in the upcoming 2010 Entry Draft. Under current rules, the 73's will be able to utilize this selection to "protect" the best available local player, should it be in the team's best interest to do so. As well, the 73's will receive a 16-year old card from Pembroke for the 2009-10 season. This card, together with the 16 year old card secured from Cumberland previously, will provide additional flexibility to the coaching staff to build a team with the best available young talent. The 73's welcome Patrick Martin and his family to Hockeyville. The 73's will be looking to affiliate Patrick in the hopes that he will be able to play some games with the team during the balance of the season. | | | | | 73's Trade Hawkins for Clarke | | December 5th, 2008 | Kemptville - The 73's announce the trade of Chris Hawkins (91 D) to the Ottawa Junior Sens for Neil Clarke (90 D). Neil was previously a protected player of the Nepean Raiders and played his minor hockey years paired with Stephen Farrell on defense. The 73's thank Chris for his time with the team. The 73's welcome Neil and his family to Hockeyville. | | | | | 73's Trade Sorrenti for Laplante | | November 30th, 2008 | Kemptville - The 73's announce that they have been able accommodate the trade request of Michael Sorrenti (89 F) to the Cumberland Grads. In exchange, the 73's received the rights to Eric Laplante (91 D). Eric is currently playing for the Metcalfe Jets where he is fourth in conference scoring among defencemen. In addition, the 73's received the Grads 4th round draft selection in the upcoming 2009 Entry Draft and a 16 year old player card for the upcoming 2009-10 season. | | | | | 73's Trade Beaudry, Acquire DiMillo and Gilbert | | November 21st, 2008 | Kemptville - The 73's completed the trade of Alex Beaudry to Gloucester in exchange for Matt DiMillo (92 D) from nearby Munster, Justin Gilbert (91 G) from Stittsville and a 1st round draft pick in the upcoming 2009 CJHL Entry Draft. The trade was facilitated by the excellent play of netminder Ben Curley, who recently stopped more than 50 shots in regulation time shut-out of the Pembroke Lumber Kings. As well, Alex Beaudry's play over the past year has garnered sufficient interest from schools that he may or may not return to the CJHL for the 2009-10 season. With this in mind, Kemptville sought out last year's 12th selection overall in Matt DiMillo. Matt was hopeful to land with a CJHL club close to his home in Munster. Justin Gilbert was playing with the Stittsville Royals Jr. B club where he had posted a 6-1 record and a stellar .920 save percentage. The 73's thank Alex for his service and welcome Matt and Justin. And the 73's look forward to adding to the future of the club with a 1st round selection in next year's draft. | | | | | 73's Sign Cory Melkert | | September 3rd, 2008 | Kemptville - The Kemptville 73's are pleased to announce the acquisition of Cory Melkert. Cory is a 6’ 5” 200 lb 1990 left defenceman, who had requested a trade that would allow him to play closer to his home in nearby Kenmore. Cory was a previous 1st round selection in the 2007 CJHL Entry Draft. In addition to his obvious size, skill and toughness, Cory brings to the 73’s the invaluable experience of having played for last year’s league champion Pembroke Lumber Kings. Contacted late tonight, Cory advised he was excited about the opportunity to play for the 73’s and the opportunity to jump into the ongoing training camp. In exchange, Kemptville transferred a draft pick to Pembroke in both the 2009 and 2010 CJHL Entry drafts. The 73's welcome Cory and his family to Hockeyville. | | | | | 73's acquire CJHL rights to Cole Weedmark | | June 6th, 2008 | The Kemptville 73's are pleased to announce that it has received the CJHL playing rights to Cole Weedmark ('90 F). Cole is a resident of Kemptville and played last season with the Kingston Voyageurs (OPJHL) and the Frontenacs (OHL). In exchange, the 73's traded Jesse Barbier ('91 F) to the Ottawa Junior Sens. The 73's wish Jesse the best of luck with the Jr. Sens. | | | | | 73's acquire Devin Cobbold | | May 24th, 2008 | The Kemptville 73's are pleased to announce the acquisition of Devin Cobbold ('91 Forward) from Hawkesbury. Devin split last season between the Hawks (31gp, 1g, 8a, 9 pts) and the Ottawa Valley Titans Midget AAA. In exchange, Kemptville transferred the rights to Mathieu White. The 73's thank Mathieu and wish him the best of luck with the Hawks. The 73's welcome Devin to Hockeyville. | | | |
